The art of Buyani Duma, aka Desire Marea, is one of the most convincing and faithful representations of chaos and complexity that animates the contemporary world, surrounded by the most heartbreaking contradictions and by the search for an intimacy that seems increasingly pure utopia. In Desire, the debut album for the South African artist, the richness of the language and the vastness of the themes addressed reflects the layered nature of his songwriting. Desire is the refined character of expression in constant exploration, spiritual and reflective, but at the same time concrete, aimed at pulling apart the divine from an earthly, deeply human perspective. Liturgical openings, ecstatic drones, noise catharsis, articulated rhythmic impulses define a disc of refined personality, intoxicated by the most daring destruction animated by fervent pop glimmers, with which to outline new poignant landscapes of the soul. In opening the new decade, the author intercepted its ambivalent poetry.

Physical, but never visceral, Desire is an album aimed rather at an uncompromising conciliation with an overwhelming interior, conscious of one's desires and the impact of one's reflexivity, unafraid of showing its vulnerability, if conditions permit. It is in this way that the intimate universe of Duma knows how to prepare violent, but widely justified positions such as the combination "Tavern Kween" - "Thokozani". Sometimes the contrast takes place within the same piece: the liturgical tone that invests the introduction "Self Center" here is essentially reflected in the multiple textual references, shifting the focus on patterns pressing and daring club reconstructions. "Studies In Black Trauma" is the most unsettling conclusion imaginable, the moment in which the powerful personality of Marea makes use of external vocal contributions.

In a solo key, the art of Desire Marea knows how to be burning and essential as never before. In this fluid demonstration of character, there is all the vital audacity of contemporaneity.
