Album of the Week

Xiu Xiu - Oh No

March 28, 2021
///
[experimental rock, art pop]

OH NO sees Xiu Xiu make music with friends that is emotionally vulnerable, despairing, and occasionally even fun. It is not an easy feat, yet it is done here with supreme style and substance. It's the group's most accessible release in years featuring the voices of Sharon Van Etten, Circuit des Yeux’s Haley Fohr, Grouper’s Liz Harris and several more guests who cut through OH NO’s sonic fog bank of clangorous gloom.

Other Notable Releases

Floating Points and Pharoh Sanders - Promises

The all-star collaboration between a producer, a saxophonist, and a symphony ‘Promises’ is five years' worth of experimental soundscaping condensed into one mind-boggling harmonic journey.

Lost Girls - menneskelloktivet [art pop]

Norwegian duo Lost Girls, artist and writer Jenny Hval and multi-instrumentalist Håvard Volden, release their first album after collaborating for more than ten years. The music flickers; between club beats and improvised guitar textures; between spoken word and melodic vocal textures; between abstract and harmonic synth lines

Serpentwithfeet - DEACON [art pop, alt r&b]

Serpentwithfeet’s ‘DEACON’ celebrates the triumph of love’s quiet moments of connection and reminds us that R&B exists on a cast continuum.
